My Background

Michelle is a mother of 1 & a true believer in nourishing young minds and establishing healthy communities. Her mission started in early 2013 when she tutored non-literate youth to read. She witnessed firsthand the struggles and frustrations that come with learning this very essential skill. Her students often experienced vicious feelings of low self-esteem, deep frustration & despair. This was truly heartbreaking. It was around this time that a mom who suspected dyslexia in her daughter sought our Michelle’s help. Michelle knew she had to come up with better tools to address this child’s negativity & teach her to read proficiently. Seeing the telltale signs of dyslexia, she researched an Orton-Gillingham system & taught accordingly. The result was promising. She soon decided to enroll in the Wilson Language Academy & the rest is, as they say, history.

Her goal is to instill confidence & excellent academic skills into her students so they may prosper & build for themselves a future full of promise. She is truly passionate about her profession & considers her students as extended versions of herself. Untreated dyslexia can rob children (and adults) of their full potential. It’s even worse when peers & adults around them behave ignorantly. Her job is to pave the way for positive & progressive learning. Her dream is for every student/child to exhibit the best of academic skills, self-esteem & confidence!

People with dyslexia can live normal, happy, and productive lives if their struggles are properly managed. After all, 40% of self-made millionaires are dyslexic! She feels most honored & humbled to take part in the journey of her students’ success!

To Successful Futures!

My Expertise

Wilson® Dyslexia Practitioner Logo Success With Dyslexia Dyslexia Tutor

As a Certified Wilson Practitioner, I use Wilson’s version of an Orton-Gillingham system. The Wilson Reading System is accredited by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) & I am a provider for the IDA.

I also use the Lindamood LiPS program for those who need to learn more basic phonics before progressing to the Wilson Reading System. Finally, I teach math using the RightStart Mathematics curriculum. All 3 of these curricula use a hands-on approach to teach concepts by encouraging students to use a variety of their senses to learn. I have personally found working in this way with my students supports research. It has been determined that those with learning difficulties understand more easily when taught with a variety of hands-on techniques.
